Abstract:
I have interned at the scene shop at Saint Mary's College for going on 4 years, while there I have done everything from painting floors and walls to designing a door to building a counter to building multiple layers of platforms. I also have experience with working a light board and a sound board. I've also worked on a total of 2 shows officially as of, July 12th 2024.
Scene Shop Intern
Spring 21 to Present
During the making of a show there is a team of students led by David Smith, Heidi Castle Smith, and David's right hand Kria. For the past four years and two summers, I have been on that team. I've helped to mix the paint colors for the sets, take a digital paint elevation and bring it to life with matching steps so that it can be replicated, I've also helped to build the platforms that we used in two shows and we re-used by a visiting school for their show. I've also picked up addition tasks like helping with strikes, light hangs, and tech week to help make sure is running smoothly and make any notes of possible fixes and changes.
Assistant Set and Prop Designer
Spring 24
During the production of the student-devised performance, Chosen Family Values, I got the chance to assist Doctor Castle-Smith with the prop designing and organizing for them to be show-ready. I got to attend production meetings, make a prop list, their cues, and organize the prop table. Most of the props were sourced from the school's already existing inventory, but some of them, like the marshmallows and hotdogs on a stick and the books, needed to be made from scratch.
Light Designer
Summer 24
Historic Saint Mary's teamed up with The New town players to put on Much Ado about Nothing by Shakespeare. This Production was my first official experience as a light designer and I got to learn how to do outdoor theatre lighting and the restrictions of true community theatre.
