About Me
Jason Sprague started doing theatre in college after getting their position in the Scene shop at Saint Mary’s College of Maryland. This position led them to their career path and work on multiple products throughout their four years at the school; one such production was with Historic Saint Mary’s City and Newtowne Players Community Theatre. Productions like Airness, Let Me Down Easy, Ever Lasting Truth, Dracula, Shakespeare in the City: Much Ado About Nothing, To Battle, and Ride the Cyclone. In their senior year at Saint Mary’s, Jason along with several other Seniors devised a full-length play in which they collaborated in the writing of the script, designing the set, props, and lighting, as well as aiding in the creation of the costumes and the set itself.
Artist Statment
I’m a jack of all trades, in practice my art is out of necessity to support my peers and myself. I am a visual artist with academic and artistic experience in creating backgrounds. The art that I create the most are scenic designs and abstract landscape paintings. I am a mixed media artist, I work both in digital and traditional mediums. Watercolours, acrylic, and charcoal/graphite are the traditional mediums I use the most often. Often I’ll combine traditional and digital mediums to achieve the look that I find most interesting. My art is the physical and simplified embodiment of me as a person. It was created from nothing and continues through spite, growing and expanding through turmoil and hardship. My art is for myself and anyone who may look upon it. To me, my art is simple. To me as a creator, it is nothing more than an extension and exploration of myself. Art changes and transforms based on who might be viewing it, and how the audience sees it.
Education
2021-2025
Bachelor's Of Performing Arting
Saint Mary's College of Maryland
While studying at Saint Mary's College of Maryland I had the unique opportunity to hone and perfect the skills I already had by having professors who were also interested in them. By being able to do I was able to devise and create a whole play and production from scratch.
